Since 1998, ALTOMAYO has stood for mild Arabica coffee from controlled organic cultivation (kbA) in the highlands of Peru.
We are a Peruvian family business with many years of experience and a tradition in promoting sustainable organic coffee cultivation in Peru. This is based on our long-standing and fair partnerships with over 150 small-scale organic coffee producer families in our country of origin, Peru. This partnership dates back to a family network that has been established and maintained since the 1960s. Together with the coffee producer families and the local population in the growing regions, these sustainable partnerships enable us to achieve the highest organic quality of our fine Arabica coffee specialties in harmony with people and nature.
To ensure the passion and care with which our organic Arabica coffees are cultivated and cared for, creating a unique experience, all our organic Arabica beans are refined in Germany using a particularly gentle, long-term drum roasting process. This allows the unique aroma to develop optimally while simultaneously reducing unwanted irritants and bitterness.
Every cup of our ALTOMAYO organic coffee specialties contains the unique taste and culture of Peru – authentic, fair, and sustainable.
Peru, a country with impressively diverse landscapes and a rich culture, offers ideal conditions for the cultivation of high-quality organic Arabica coffee thanks to its location in the so-called "Coffee Belt." This coffee has gained worldwide recognition and appreciation in recent years.
The delicate Arabica coffee plants thrive under ideal climatic conditions in the remote highlands of the Andes. Here, in the green valleys and on terraced fields, small-scale organic family farms cultivate their coffee with passion, care, and traditional knowledge of sustainable farming methods.
During the main harvest season, only the ripe, red coffee cherries with the organic Arabica beans are picked by hand, prepared for transport, and dried in the sun.
This careful craftsmanship and passionate dedication, coupled with traditional knowledge, guarantee the highest organic quality of our organic coffee specialties in every cup - sip by sip.
ALTOMAYO owes its name to the fertile region "Alto Mayo" in the north of the Peruvian Andes, which was known as a growing area for high-quality organic Arabica coffee.
The Mayo River flows through the area and, due to its location in the highlands, lies at an altitude of approximately 1,000 meters above sea level. Literally translated, the name ALTOMAYO means "high river" or "river from the mountains." Today, "Alto Mayo" is a nature reserve known for its exceptional biodiversity, with over 300 orchid and 400 bird species.
With our organic coffee specialties, we are making a joint contribution to protecting biodiversity and the environment in order to preserve the livelihoods of the local population.
